How to estimate wallpaper
Add the length of every wall you are covering to get the perimeter, then multiply by the wall height for the total area. A standard double roll is 20.5 inches wide and 33 feet long — about 56 sq ft, but after trimming and pattern matching you usually get 45–50 usable sq ft.
Patterns with a repeat waste more paper: the bigger the repeat, the more you cut off each strip. Our calculator handles this automatically — just pick your pattern repeat.

A 12 × 12 ft room with 8 ft walls has a 48 ft perimeter = 384 sq ft. With no pattern match you need about 7 double rolls; with a 12 in repeat, about 9 rolls. Use the calculator for your exact room.
What is a double roll?
A double roll is two shorter rolls packaged together (20.5 in × 33 ft total). Most wallpaper is sold this way. Our calculator counts double rolls.
Does the ceiling need wallpaper?
Usually not — this calculator estimates walls only. If you want a papered ceiling, add its area separately.
